Assistant Sporting Director
Chris Tierney is in his first season as Assistant Sporting Director after being promoted to the position on January 8, 2024. Prior to his appointment, Tierney served two seasons as the club’s Director of Soccer Operations from 2022-23 and was the club’s Player Recruitment Manager from 2019-22. Tierney works in tandem with Sporting Director Curt Onalfo to manage the day-to-day operations of the club’s soccer operations including a leading role in player recruitment, scouting, contract negotiations, and salary cap management.
Tierney transitioned into the front office in August 2019 following a decorated 11-year playing career from 2008-18, all with the Revolution, and was long regarded as one of Major League Soccer’s top left backs. He announced his retirement in November 2018, finishing his tenure as one of the club’s all-time leaders in several statistical categories. Tierney still ranks among the club’s top five for games played (246), games started (220), and assists (40).
As a player, the Wellesley, Mass. native helped New England to a 2008 North American SuperLiga title as well as appearances in the 2014 MLS Cup and 2016 U.S. Open Cup finals. Among his career accolades are an MLS All-Star Team selection in 2015, Revolution Defender of the Year honors in 2016, and Midnight Riders Man of the Year recognition in 2016.
Tierney played collegiately from 2004-08 at the University of Virginia. He currently resides in Charlestown, Mass. with his wife, Eliza, and their two children.
