Danny Rivas is in his third season as Assistant Athletic Trainer with the New England Revolution, having joined the club in August 2023. In his role, Rivas serves as the club’s Rehab Coordinator, working closely with Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Eric Schwartz.
Rivas, a fluent Spanish speaker, previously served as Head Athletic Trainer with Sacramento Republic FC in the USL Championship during the 2022 season. He departed Sacramento to join Sentara Healthcare, based in Virginia, as an Athletic Trainer. He also spent one year at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. as a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Prior to arriving at George Washington, Rivas worked at Radford University as an Assistant Athletic Trainer from 2019-21. He also held a Graduate Assistant role at the University of West Alabama from 2017-19, and worked as a student intern with the University of Virginia football team from 2016-17. Rivas’ first internship came at Davidson College from October 2015 through March 2016, where he was immersed in a clinical rotation working primarily with the football and women’s basketball teams.
Rivas, who hails from Queens, N.Y., holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University in athletic training, and a master’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from West Alabama. He completed the Doctor of Athletic Training program at Moravian University in December 2023. He has been a board-certified athletic trainer since June 2017 and is also certified in Mental Health First Aid by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
