FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (October 8, 2023) – New England Revolution midfielder Esmir Bajraktarevic has been called up to the U.S. Men’s Olympic National Team for its upcoming training camp in Phoenix, Ariz. From Oct. 8-17. The U.S. will face Mexico on Oct. 11 and Japan on Oct. 17 in preparation for the 2024 Olympics, the USA’s first appearance at the tournament since 2008. Bajraktarevic, 18, earns another U.S. Youth National Team selection as he continues to emerge on the MLS stage in his second professional season. In 2022, he made three appearances for the U.S. Under-19s, scoring once to help win the Slovenia Nations Cup. The Homegrown Player, who first joined the Revolution Academy in 2021, has totaled 16 MLS appearances, with six starts, since his league debut last season. The Appleton, Wisc. product tallied his first goal with the senior team earlier this summer in Leagues Cup 2023 action.
With New England’s second team, Revolution II, Bajraktarevic finished the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro regular season with six goals and one assist in only 602 minutes played across eight appearances. In the team’s first playoff match on Oct. 1 vs. Philadelphia Union II, the teenager delivered two spectacular goals, including the game winner, to propel Revolution II into the conference semifinal round. Earlier this season against Philadelphia, he recoded the first hat trick in Revolution II history. Since 2021, Bajraktarevic has amassed 36 games played, 25 starts, seven goals, and three assists in league play with the reserve team.
