FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – When Myles Morgan scored his 13th goal of the season for New England Revolution II against New York City FC II in August, he matched the club’s single-season scoring record. With three games remaining in the regular season, the question became whether he could make the record his own. On Decision Day, against his former club, Morgan pulled through – setting a new mark while helping Revolution II secure a spot in the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs.
Revs II took down Toronto FC II last Sunday to close out the MLS NEXT Pro regular season. With a playoff berth on the line and one last shot to etch his name into the club’s history books, Morgan led the way for New England, logging the first goal of the 3-1 win just before halftime. Toronto equalized minutes later, but the Revs refused to let the result slip away, putting the game out of reach with two more goals from midfielder Javaun Mussenden and homegrown defender Damario McIntosh.
While Morgan emphasized that his focus is always on helping the team however he can, he admitted the chance to break the club record provided extra motivation. The opportunity to do it against his former club revved him up even more.
“I definitely had that in my mind for sure. The last two games I wasn’t scoring, at Carolina Core I hit the crossbar and I was trying to break that record. It was motivation for sure. I knew, last game of the season, Toronto, especially since I played there too, I’ve got to score,” Morgan explained. “It was a good feeling, especially to do it in front of my family and friends too.”
Morgan began his professional journey in Toronto and later spent time with the Vancouver Whitecaps’ MLS NEXT Pro side before joining New England this season. After recording just four goals and one assist in league play prior to this year, the Canadian attacker has found his stride in New England, totaling 15 goal contributions. The 21-year-old has also emerged as one of MLS NEXT Pro’s top scorers, ranking fourth in the league.
“It’s really about knowing where to be. My teammates give me the ball in the right spots. I count on them to get me the ball in the right spots and then they count on me to put it in the net,” he said. “I used to play as a center midfielder, so I didn’t score as many goals, but now I am striking. I’m closer to the net and I put balls in the net. That’s my job at the end of the day, to score goals.”
With the win in Toronto, Revs II finished fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. The squad will open their playoff run in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Columbus Crew 2 on Saturday, October 17 at 3 p.m. ET. It marks the club’s third postseason appearance. For Morgan, making a run for the title will come down to consistency, both from the team as a whole and from himself as a goalscorer.
“For us it’s about doing what we’ve done to be in the playoffs,” he explained. “Coach puts an emphasis on just being us and everything else will take care of itself.”
