CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
2nd in Eastern Conference (17-10-4, 55 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 win at Philadelphia Union

The New England Revolution earned their third straight win on Saturday night at Subaru Park, taking down Philadelphia Union in a 106-minute thriller. The three points elevated the Revs to second in the Eastern Conference and league standings. It was an important win as New England now have just three regular season matches remaining as they look to earn homefield advantage heading into the postseason.

The Revolution have shined on the defensive end of the pitch, allowing just 42 goals through 31 games. Their defensive stats rank as the second-best in the East and among the league’s most resolute. Welcoming Red Bull New York to Gillette Stadium, the Revs have earned 32 of their 55 points at home, the third-most leaguewide.

Red Bull New York
9th in Eastern Conference (11-14-6, 39 pts.)
Last Result | 2-0 win vs. Inter Miami CF

If playoffs started today, Red Bull New York would qualify for a Wild Card Match. Sitting 9th in the Eastern table, just above the playoff line, their ticket has yet to be punched. As they battle to make it to the postseason, it will all come down to consistency for a New York side who have won four of their last seven games (4-0-3) after snapping a six-game winless streak from August to September.

Going up against Inter Miami CF over the weekend, it was crucial to their playoff dreams to take home all three points, and they met the moment in a 2-0 victory as hosts. New York have struggled defensively this season, conceding 56 goals. Their negative 15 goal differential is among the worst in the league, but they have still managed to find important wins.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution defender/winger Peyton Miller
Peyton Miller proved his versatility on the pitch last time out, slotting into left back as Will Sands nursed a minor injury. Typically featuring on the wing this season, 18-year-old Miller has continued to show the kind of reliability conventionally found in more veteran players. Even on the backline, Miller found a way to get involved in the attack, assisting Dor Turgeman’s goal in the Revolution’s 2-1 win at Philadelphia Union.

The helper marked Miller’s fourth in three games, contributing to a goal in his last three outings. The Connecticut native’s 15 goal contributions are the third-most on the team, with seven goals and eight assists.

Red Bull New York midfielder Adri Mehmeti
17-year-old Mehmeti has had a breakout season for RBNY. He’s been an influential player for the team all season long, but received a boost after returning from his first senior call up to the United States Men’s National Team this fall. Along with his international recognition, the midfielder has also been honored leaguewide, earning the third spot on the MLS 22 Under 22 list.

Mehmeti earned a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 32 following his performance in RBNY’s victory over Inter Miami CF. Mehmeti controlled the midfield, making a team-high 53 passes in the match. In RBNY’s last time out against New England, Mehmeti made the assist on New York’s game-winning goal.

WHAT THE REVS ARE SAYING

Head coach Marko Mitrović on preparing for Red Bull New York after the two teams met for the first time back in February:
“Going into that first game that we played [on Feb. 28], the second game of the season, sometimes it's really difficult to get the final picture about the teams because it’s the very beginning of the season. But I want to say about New York Red Bulls is that their certain tendencies and the way they wanted to play that game, they are very consistent through the whole season, and they have a strong identity in the way they want to play in and out of possession. They have a lot of young, talented, energetic players that are playing some of their first seasons. But you cannot see that inexperience in their game because they are very committed and expose that talent. They are a, I would say, very fun team to watch in a very positive way.”

Mitrović on how much the Revolution have changed since their first meeting with New York:
“I don’t want to say that we changed because we were on the path to, day-by-day, growing as a team game after game. I think that we just grew as a team. Not that we are different or we have changed, we just grew and I think we still have a really long way to go to grow as a team. I said the last several games we played, we played against very good opponents that tasked you in a very different way. They pushed us to our limits in every single action on the field and in different ways. I think the game against Red Bull New York tomorrow will be the same.”

Midfielder Matt Polster on how to control the tempo in the midfield against Red Bull:
“I think they press with intensity. But with that intensity, if you're composed on the ball, you can control the rhythm and it kind of slows their press down and then impose yourself. It comes down to winning duels at times in one-v-one battles or winning 50-50 balls. That will help tilt the game in our favor.
