CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
3rd in Eastern Conference (15-10-4, 49 pts.)
Last Result | 3-2 win at FC Cincinnati
The Revs return to Gillette Stadium to close out a three-game week following an important midweek victory at FC Cincinnati. New England battled to a 3-2 win as visitors, earning their ticket to the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs. The result elevated the Revolution to third in the Eastern Conference, as they prepare to host the East’s fourth place team, Chicago Fire.
New England were eager to return to the win column in Cincinnati after two-straight shutout losses. Now motivated to finish in a top seed ahead of the postseason, the Revs hope to keep the wins coming at home. In their last time out against Chicago, New England took all three points in a 2-1 victory.
Chicago Fire FC
4th in Eastern Conference (14-9-6, 48 pts.)
Last Result | 3-1 loss vs. Philadelphia Union
Chicago have been contesting New England in the standings for most of the season. Currently sitting fourth in the East, Chicago will arrive motivated to earn points as they continue to look for a 2026 playoff berth. Prior to their loss against Philadelphia, the Fire were on a three-game winning streak.
Chicago have been a strong side on both ends of the pitch this season with 52 goals scored and 43 conceded. Their 54.86 xG is the sixth strongest leaguewide, as they’ve stood out offensively with major attacking pieces like Robert Lewandowski. In their last time out against New England, they outshot the Revs 21 to four, putting six shots on frame.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner
Matt Turner continues to be one of the most highly impactful players on New England’s roster as he’s repeatedly come up big in important moments. Turner most recently displayed his signature heroics in Cincinnati, making eight saves to secure the Revs’ victory. Of those eight saves, many came in the dying minutes of the match as the team fought to maintain their lead.
Last time out against Chicago, Turner made five saves, including a massive diving save in the 89th minute to deny the Fire from equalizing. Turner owns the fifth most saves in the league with 114. As the Revs look to close out the regular season strong, Turner will remain the last line of defense.
Chicago forward Maren Haile-Selassie
Haile-Selassie leads the current Chicago Fire roster in both goals (11) and assists (10). He also leads the team in on-target scoring attempts, with 27 shots on frame. The forward is currently on a three-game scoring streak and has also logged two assists in his last three appearances.
Last time out against the Revolution, Haile-Selassie scored the Fire’s lone goal of the night with a shot from outside the box to the bottom left corner. While the Revs remain a strong team defensively, they have conceded eight goals in their last three games. As they continue to recover their defensive resolve without center back Mamadou Fofana, Haile-Selassie will be a player to watch.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Head coach Marko Mitrović on the team’s ability to stay resilient and continue competing at a high level during a three-game week:
“That’s something I'm really positive about with this group, that they are always ready to push their limits all the way up to everything they have. It's a really short stretch of three games, and we traveled to Cincinnati [on Wednesday]. But again, it's a circumstance for us, and it’s the same way for every other team around the league. We worked these two days on one side to recover, but on the other side to prepare for the game as best as possible, and we have 36 more hours to make the best preparation for the game.”
Mitrović on key takeaways from the first meeting with Chicago Fire FC on September 13:
“Those memories that happened in the game very recently, I think actually help both teams, especially players. I still think that they have that feeling from the game and what happened on the field. As you mentioned, just playing the game against them very recently, actually puts both teams with this short time between the two games in a good spot, with an understanding of who we are.”
Midfielder Carles Gil on how it feels to be part of this team after clinching a postseason berth on Wednesday:
“Very good, obviously. Also a good win in Cincinnati after two difficult losses. I think in Cincinnati we showed again the team we want to be. This league is difficult, sometimes you have ups and downs, but in the end overall we are having a very good season so far. But the most important is coming, in the last five games, to try to be in the highest spot and then the playoffs.”
