CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
13th in Eastern Conference (0-2-1, 1 pt.)
Last Result | 2-0 loss vs. Philadelphia Union

Last weekend's 2-0 loss to the conference-leading Philadelphia Union sends the Revs into matchday four still in search of both their first goal and win of the season, though they remain stout defensively with just three goals against through three games. Even against Philadelphia it was a strong defensive performance, as the game was 0-0 into the final 15 minutes as the Revs slowed the high-scoring Union to their first scoreless half of the season.

The Revolution began that match hungry for an attacking breakthrough, but found themselves without the services of striker Leo Campana, who was forced off inside the opening 10 minutes with a hamstring injury. Maxi Urruti provided a spark in place of Campana, and he may well be tasked with doing so in the coming weeks with Campana expected to miss the next three to four weeks while recovering.

New York City FC
9th in Eastern Conference (1-1-1, 4 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 win vs. Orlando City SC

NYCFC secured their first win of the season – and their first win under new head coach Pascal Jansen – last Saturday when goals from Alonso Martinez and Hannes Wolf lifted the hosts to a 2-1 win over Orlando City SC. Jansen joined NYCFC ahead of the 2025 season from Ferencvárosi TC of the Hungarian top-flight, and the London-born coach has experience managing nearly 200 matches in Europe, across Hungary and the Netherlands.

Saturday's hosts have long been strong at Yankee Stadium, where they claimed a 2-0 win over the Revs last season as part of a two-game series sweep against New England.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution winger Ignatius Ganago
With starting striker Leo Campana sidelined for the next three to four weeks, Ignatius Ganago will be one of the key players looked upon to fill the attacking void. The versatile 26-year-old attacker joined the Revolution this past offseason on loan from French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, and after this weekend's game he'll be joining up with the Cameroon National Team for a pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, his first call up since 2023. Ganago has previously been capped 14 times by Cameroon.

Ganago has been one of the more threatening attacking pieces throughout the Revolution's first three games, and with the added motivation of finding New England's first goal of the season, he could well be a difference maker on Saturday night.

NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese
A breakout performer in 2024, Matt Freese had one of the highest save percentages in all of MLS while starting all 34 regular season games for NYCFC. The 26-year-old shot stopper also made several crucial saves in the MLS Cup Playoffs, helping steer NYCFC to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Freese was also instrumental in last year's meetings with New England, keeping clean sheets in both regular season matches and totaling 11 saves in the process. He remains in search of his first shutout this season, however, having conceded four goals through the first three games.

HEAR FROM THE TEAM

Head coach Caleb Porter on how the Revs will adjust to a unique field at Yankee Stadium:
“It’s different. Every game is a little different, but this one is kind of interesting from the standpoint of the field, the pitch size, the orientation of it, the outfield. Yankee Stadium, it’s kind of a strange orientation. It’s a very tight pitch. It’s the smallest pitch in the league. Some of your decisions in terms of how you’re going to play and who you’re going to select to play need to be based on the conditions and understanding that it’s a very tight pitch.”

Midfielder Jackson Yueill on the team’s mindset moving forward:
“We are still trying to find a little bit of our rhythm in the attacking half, so I think that's something we have been working on. The guys are really hungry to get our first win. We want to get goals, and I think that's something that we really keyed in on in recent weeks and something that we're looking to do. I think that [New York City FC] is a really good team, so we're going to have to bring our best game defensively. But offensively, I think we’ve worked on a few things and we're going to try it out this weekend, go away, and see if we can get the win.”

Forward Maxi Urruti on the importance of Saturday’s match:
“It’s very important for us and the fans, too. We know that the first few games aren’t good results, but the more important thing is the next game. We are focused and we trained very well this week. We need the three points.”
