FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Nov. 1, 2026) – The New England Revolution (18-11-4, 58 pts.) fell to Inter Miami CF (16-6-11, 59 pts.), 2-1, in front of a season high 54,112 fans, the second-largest home crowd in the club's regular season history, on Sunday night at Gillette Stadium. Midfielder Dániel Gazdag netted New England's lone goal, his second tally in as many games. However, after the Herons equalized in the 69th minute, two-time reigning MLS MVP Lionel Messi scored in the 83rd minute to send the visitors home with all three points.

Sunday night's contest saw both sides play to a scoreless first half despite several dangerous chances. Inter Miami's best opportunity came in the 28th minute when Germán Berterame drove a left-footed shot on target, but Matt Turner reacted with a sprawling save to keep the match scoreless. New England nearly struck in the 37th minute as Homegrown Player Peyton Miller burst to the end line and cut a pass back for Brooklyn Raines near the penalty spot, but the midfielder's effort sailed over the crossbar. The Revolution carried much of the attacking momentum in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Miami, 6-3.

New England found the opener eight minutes into the second half through Gazdag. Miller sparked the move with another surging run to the end line, dancing his way past a defender before picking out Ilay Feingold in the box. Feingold deftly redirected the ball into Gazdag's path, and the Hungarian midfielder fired home the finish in the 53rd minute. Miller earned the secondary assist, his fifth in as many matches and a career-high ninth of the season, while Feingold recorded his third assist in the last two games.

Miami responded by applying steady pressure and nearly found an equalizer in the 65th minute when Messi forced Turner into a diving save. Berterame pounced on the rebound and directed a second effort on frame, but Raines cleared the ball off the goal line to preserve the Revolution's lead. However, Berterame converted four minutes later on a header, assisted by Messi, to level the match at 1-1. With the match knotted entering the final stretch, Messi recorded the decisive goal, blasting a left-footed finish into the bottom corner in the 83rd minute.

Turner, who made three saves in net tonight, set a new single-season club record with his 33rd start in net. In the midfield, Raines logged two key passes in his 75th MLS outing, while Alhassan Yusuf returned to the pitch after an eight-match injury absence.
