FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (Oct. 17, 2026) – The New England Revolution (16-10-4, 52 pts.) inched closer to securing homefield advantage in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs by defeating Chicago Fire FC (14-10-6, 48 pts.), 1-0, on Saturday night in front of a season-high 34,506 fans at Gillette Stadium.

Midfielder Matt Polster provided the lone goal of the match in the 26th minute, assisted by Carles Gil and Peyton Miller, while goalkeeper Matt Turner posted a six-save performance to keep the team's sixth clean sheet of the campaign. New England now has 10 home wins on the season, reaching the mark for the sixth time in the post-shootout era (since 2000).

New England and Chicago, entering the game with only one point of separation as the third- and fourth-place teams in the Eastern Conference, dueled through a tense first half before the Revolution found the opener in the 26th minute. Miller sparked the attack down the right flank, linking up with Gil, who danced past his defender inside the box before slipping a pass to Polster in the penalty area. The midfielder, who began his career with Chicago in 2015, met the pass with a first-time finish and buried his shot inside the left post for his second goal of the season. Gil collected his team-leading 11th assist, while Miller registered his seventh helper of the campaign, his third assist in the last two matches. The Homegrown winger surpassed 5,000 minutes played in his MLS career tonight.

Chicago dictated the tempo early in the second half, generating several dangerous chances as Turner was called into action early. The Revolution shop-stopper made a diving save to his left in the 48th minute, punching away an effort on target from Chicago's Anton Saletros. New England nearly found an insurance goal in the 63rd minute when Miller met an Ilay Feingold cross and smashed a left-footed shot on net, but Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady denied the attempt at the near post.

Turner stood tall as Chicago pushed for a late equalizer, making back-to-back saves to keep the Revolution in front. The veteran goalkeeper punched away a shot from the top of the box in the 81st minute before turning aside a close-range strike from Philip Zinckernagel in the 88th minute. Turner recorded six saves on the night to earn his and the team's sixth shutout of the season.

New England is on the road next weekend, visiting the Philadelphia Union for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Subaru Park on Saturday, October 24.
