FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution Academy forward Olger Escobar (2006 – Lynn, Mass.) has been called up to the Under-17 Guatemalan National Team ahead of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches in February where his team will take on Mexico, Panama, and Curaçao.
Escobar, 16, joined the Revolution Academy in 2018. The Lynn, Mass. native led the Under-17 Academy team with seven goals this past fall, including a scissor kick game-winner in his team’s 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps at MLS NEXT Fest.
“It means a lot to me to have the opportunity to represent where my parents come from, where I’m from,” Escobar said. “It’ll be a great experience and I’ll learn a lot from it. The Revolution Academy has done an incredible job preparing me for this opportunity and I’m excited to represent them and Guatemala, while playing against some of the best players in the world.”
After spending the last week in preseason training with Revolution II, the forward earns his fourth call-up with the Guatemalan National Team after most recently joining the U-17s in August 2022. He will join Technical Director Marvin Barera’s squad for training from January 25-28 in Guatemala City as the team prepares for CONCACAF World Cup qualifying action next month.
All four Revolution Academy teams return in March to begin the MLS NEXT spring season. More information on Revolution Academy’s teams and programs can be found at revolutionsoccer.net.
