FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (September 28, 2023) – The New England Revolution will host the club’s annual Fight Childhood Cancer Night at Gillette Stadium on Saturday when they take on Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer action. All September long during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and throughout Saturday around the stadium and on the field, the Revolution are showing their support for patients and families affected by childhood cancer, working in tandem with several locally based community partners, non-profit organizations, and hospitals.
As part of Major League Soccer’s Kick Childhood Cancer program, all MLS clubs have been “going gold” throughout the stadium with gold ribbon jersey patches, gold corner flags, goal nets, custom captain’s armband, match balls, and stadium lighting. Revolution players will wear special Kick Childhood Cancer warmup tops featuring the name of a local pediatric cancer patient. Following the match, players will sign their respective tops before they are sent to the patients.
Prior to kickoff, the Revolution will posthumously honor Malia Jusczyk of Plainville, Mass. as Hero of the Match, with her family present on her behalf. In June of this year, Malia passed away at the age of 14 after a 26-month battle with cancer. Revolution players will honor Malia with special “MJ” shirts upon arrival at the stadium, while one of the prematch warm-up tops will feature Malia’s name.
Earlier in the day, Saturday’s celebration begins with the conclusion of Remy’s Ride, as local teenager and Special Olympics Unified Team member Remy St. Germain ends his 75-mile bike ride from “Why Me and Sherry’s House” in Worcester at the Patriot Place outdoor stage. Remy is expected to arrive at approximately 4:30 p.m. Remy embarks on his annual ride in honor of his late cousin, Sophia, who passed away at age four after a battle with leukemia. Remy’s Ride is raising funds for Why Me and Sherry’s House, a Massachusetts-based organization committed to fighting childhood cancer.
The Revolution are also partnering with the Pablove Foundation to provide an unforgettable experience for four local pediatric cancer patients. These Pablove Shutterbugs spent a matchday with the Revolution photographing warm-ups and all of the action during the September 2 match against Austin FC. These same young photographers and their families will be back at Gillette Stadium on Saturday to showcase their work in a gallery at Gillette Stadium, with the art available for auction to benefit the foundation.
Fans can also get involved and show their support by participating in the Revolution Drive Series presented by the Dan O’Brien Automotive Group, which will be collecting birthday party supplies for the Confetti Foundation. Their mission is to supply birthday parties to children who must spend their birthdays in a hospital, pediatric oncology clinic, or hospice facility. Additionally, prior to the match in the Fan Zone, fans will have the opportunity to support the Confetti Foundation by creating birthday cards for patients that will be hospitalized on their birthdays. Activations by the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation and Make-A-Wish will also be in the Fan Zone.
The player escorts during the prematch walkout will be comprised of the Boston Children’s Hospital Dream Team. These local patients and their siblings will join the players on the field before enjoying the match with their families in a suite.
