After helping the Revolution earn their sixth straight home win, defender Mamadou Fofana and head coach Marko Mitrović have earned spots on the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 12. With Fofana’s defensive heroics and Mitrović’s inspiring guidance, this 2026 Revolution squad has officially written itself into the club record books, achieving the best-ever home start (6-0-0) after their 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union this past Saturday night.
The Revs entered the second half trailing 1-0 and searching for yet another comeback victory. In the 58th minute, it looked as though Philadelphia might double their lead, but Fofana had other plans. After Matt Turner saved the initial shot, Philly went in for the rebound, only for the Malian center back to make a goal line clearance to deny them another goal. Throwing his body into the play to keep New England alive, Fofana initiated an important moment of momentum for the Revs, who then found their first goal of the night less than two minutes later, when Carles Gil assisted Luca Langoni’s Goal of the Matchday nominee.
Fofana continued to anchor the back line, helping shut down Philadelphia for the remainder of the match, allowing Gil the opportunity to find the game-winning goal in the 87th minute. The captain’s contributions earned him a spot on the bench alongside the week’s Best XI.
While the Revs’ seven-game unbeaten run has been fueled by several standout performances, none of it would be possible without the leadership of Mitrović. After leading the Revs to a historic start, the head coach was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for the first time.
In his first season as an MLS head coach, Mitrović has made a notable difference in New England, matching the best 11-game start by a Revolution coach (22 points). But Mitrović’s impact hasn’t just been seen in the results; it has also been about the mentality the team has shown to achieve them. The win over Philadelphia marked the fourth time this season the Revs have secured a comeback victory, a testament to the unwavering belief Mitrović has instilled in them.

That belief, preached in halftime talks, echoed by the players postgame, and seen time and again from New England’s results this season, is what earned Mitrović recognition as the league’s top coach this week.
Aiming to continue their perfect home form, the Revolution now look toward a midweek test against Nashville SC on Wednesday night. After opening the season as visitors in Nashville, falling 4-1, New England will be eyeing redemption in a clash between the Eastern Conference’s top two sides.
