It's been a full team effort as the New England Revolution have matched the best defensive start to a season in club history, conceding just seven goals through their first nine games and none in the last 295 minutes en route to three straight shutout victories.
Backstopping that rock solid run of form has been goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič, who earns MLS Team of the Matchday honors once again after making four saves in the Revolution's 1-0 win over Charlotte FC this past Saturday night, snapping The Crown's eight-game home winning streak and becoming the first team to win in Charlotte since last August. Ivačič was also honored on the MLS Team of the Matchday just two weeks ago, when his shutout performance lifted the Revs to a similar 1-0 triumph in Atlanta.
The biggest of Ivačič's saves arrived in the 14th minute, when he denied New England native and former University of Rhode Island forward Patrick Agyemang from near the penalty spot.
Ivačič, who has played every minute of every game for the Revolution since debuting with the club last May, has totaled 34 saves through nine games, tied for eighth-best in MLS and just six off Charlotte FC goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina (40) for the league lead.
Carles Gil, who scored the only goal of Saturday night's win with a clever curling effort from the right side of the penalty area, earned a place on the MLS Team of the Matchday bench. Gil leads the Revolution with four goals on the season, three of them game winners.
The Revs will head north of the border this weekend aiming to extend their shutout streak and winning streak at Toronto FC. A late afternoon kickoff from BMO Field is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
