New England Revolution’s man of the moment Dave Romney has earned deserved recognition for his stellar performance in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Charlotte FC.
The defender, who has played every minute of MLS and Leagues Cup action in his debut campaign with the Revs, netted the game-winning goal – his second strike for the club and first in regular season play – to claim a pivotal three points.
Rising to meet DeJuan Jones’ pinpoint delivery, the center back nodded past Kristijan Kahlina to restore the hosts’ lead with just five minutes of normal time to go – just 89 seconds after Karol Świderski had leveled for the visitors.
Romney also produced a solid defensive display, recording a team-high seven clearances, winning the most aerial duels (4) and completing the second-highest number of passes with an accuracy of 92.5% (49/53). He also made two blocks – one a crucial stop to deny Scott Arfield with 15 minutes to play.
The victory lifted New England to third in the Eastern Conference table – just two points behind second-placed Orlando City SC with a game in hand, as the race for homefield advantage in the 2023 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs intensifies.
The Revolution (14-6-10, 52 pts.) are back on home turf on Wednesday night, welcoming Columbus Crew to Gillette Stadium, looking to extend their unbeaten record in Foxborough to 12-0-4 in 2023. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage available in English and Spanish on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. The local radio call will also be available in English on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
