Forward Teal Bunbury has been named the 2020 Revolution Humanitarian of the Year. For the second straight year, the 11-year MLS veteran rallied teammates and supporters to raise funds to provide Boston-area families in need with a back-to-school shopping spree. This year, Teal’s “Back to School Kickoff with the Revs” quadrupled its original goal and raised $12,000 to provide 40 families with a $300 Target gift certificate to purchase school supplies, clothing, and more. Bunbury expanded his efforts to the Rhode Island community for the Thanksgiving season with “Teal’s Turkey Club,” which has already exceeded its original goal and now aims to raise up to $8,000 to feed 200 families this holiday season.
On the field in 2020, his seventh season with the Revolution, Bunbury claimed the team’s Golden Boot as the leading scorer with 8 goals and one assist in 22 appearances, including 19 starts. He finished the campaign as the MLS leader in away goals with six, and notched four goals over his last seven games. The Ontario, Canada native tallied two braces on the season, one behind the MLS lead, and his three game-winning goals were only two off the league leader. This season, Bunbury climbed into a tie with Steve Ralston (42) for fourth on the club’s all-time scoring list.
