FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced the team’s regular season award winners for the club’s 25^th Major League Soccer season. Goalkeeper Matt Turner has been honored by fans as the Revolution Team MVP, and by his teammates as the Players’ Player of the Year. Defender Henry Kessler is the club’s Defender of the Year as voted on by members of the media. Teal Bunbury has been named the Revolution Humanitarian of the Year, and also captured the club’s Golden Boot as New England’s leading goal scorer.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner earns his first Revolution MVP award, determined by a fan vote, becoming the first goalkeeper to earn the club honor since Matt Reis in 2011. In his fifth professional season and third as the club’s starting goalkeeper, Turner’s teammates also voted him the Players’ Player of the Year. In addition, the 26-year-old was named one of three finalists league-wide for the Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Turner backstopped the Revolution in 22 of 23 matches this season, helping the club record the lowest goals against average in its history with only 1.08 goals allowed per game. The MLS leader in saves percentage since the start of 2019 (min. 20 games played), Turner set a career high with six shutouts on the season and matched a personal best with eight wins. He concluded the year ranked among the top-10 MLS goalkeepers in saves percentage (75.6 percent), goals against average (1.09), and saves (68). During the year, the Park Ridge, N.J. native climbed the Revs’ all-time rankings in several categories, ranking second in goals against average and third among Revs goalkeepers in wins (24), minutes played in net (6,176), and saves (238).

Rookie defender Henry Kessler was voted the Revolution Defender of the Year by local media, becoming the club’s first rookie to receive the honor since A.J. Soares in 2011. Kessler appeared in all but one match during his debut professional campaign. The New York City native made a seamless adjustment to the professional level, appearing in all six of the team’s clean sheets. The 22-year-old center back led the Revolution in interceptions (34), tackles won (21), possessions won (123), and clearances (83). Kessler, the sixth-overall MLS SuperDraft selection out Virginia, led all 2020 selections in games played (22), starts (19), and minutes played (1,823). Among all rookies in 2020, his games and minutes totals rank second.

HENRY KESSLER’S 2020 SEASON AT A GLANCE: 

• New England’s first rookie to win the club’s Defender of the Year award since A.J. Soares in 2011.

Forward Teal Bunbury has been named the 2020 Revolution Humanitarian of the Year. For the second straight year, the 11-year MLS veteran rallied teammates and supporters to raise funds to provide Boston-area families in need with a back-to-school shopping spree. This year, Teal’s “Back to School Kickoff with the Revs” quadrupled its original goal and raised $12,000 to provide 40 families with a $300 Target gift certificate to purchase school supplies, clothing, and more. Bunbury expanded his efforts to the Rhode Island community for the Thanksgiving season with “Teal’s Turkey Club,” which has already exceeded its original goal and now aims to raise up to $8,000 to feed 200 families this holiday season.

On the field in 2020, his seventh season with the Revolution, Bunbury claimed the team’s Golden Boot as the leading scorer with 8 goals and one assist in 22 appearances, including 19 starts. He finished the campaign as the MLS leader in away goals with six, and notched four goals over his last seven games. The Ontario, Canada native tallied two braces on the season, one behind the MLS lead, and his three game-winning goals were only two off the league leader. This season, Bunbury climbed into a tie with Steve Ralston (42) for fourth on the club’s all-time scoring list. He also became the 11^th player in club history to register 200 appearances in a Revolution shirt, and recorded his 200^th MLS start on Oct. 23.

TEAL BUNBURY’S 2020 SEASON AT A GLANCE:

• Claimed New England’s Golden Boot as the club’s leading scorer with eight goals, including four in the last seven games.
