CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (6-10-7, 25 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 loss vs. Orlando City SC
Still winless since the start of June following last weekend’s defeat to Orlando, the Revs are looking to find their form at Gillette Stadium as they continue a critical homestand. New England is eager for better results, and they will be hungry to get back in the win column against Montréal. In their previous meeting, the Revolution took a comfortable 3-0 win at the end of May.
Friday will mark the Revolution’s sixth game in 21 days, and for Carles Gil, who appeared in the MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday night, it’s his seventh. As players focus on remaining sharp to close out the month of July, they’ll have to adjust to an altered back line with starting center back Brayan Ceballos suspended for yellow card accumulation.
CF Montréal
15th in Eastern Conference (3-15-6, 15 pts.)
Last Result | 2-0 loss vs. Chicago Fire FC
Montréal have trailed at the bottom of the East all season. Sitting 15th in the Eastern Conference table, the Canadian side have won just three times on the year. With an away record of 2-8-3, CF Montréal have struggled on the road and are tied with D.C. United as the leakiest defensive team in the East, allowing 45 goals so far.
Montréal visit Gillette Stadium at a time when the Revolution are in need of a win, and the Revs will be hoping to kickstart a run of positive results on Friday night.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution attacker Luca Langoni
Langoni has started the last five games for the Revolution and although he has only found one goal and one assist in 2025, the speedy attacker has helped New England’s front line create several chances in recent games.
Last season, Langoni debuted for the Revolution at Stade Saputo and instantly started contributing for New England. In his first MLS game, the Argentinean scored a goal and registered an assist against Montréal. Eager for more on his tally, Langoni could do it again this Friday night.
Montréal striker Prince Owusu
While Montréal is currently one of the lowest scoring teams in the league with only 20 goals, Prince Owusu is anything but goal-lacking. The striker has scored half of the team’s goals, with 10 goals and two assists so far this season. With their second-leading scorer, former Revolution striker Giacomo Vrioni, trailing behind with only three goals, it’s apparent that Owusu is the most dominant part of Montréal’s attack.
While New England’s attack looks to expose the Canadian side once more, they’ll have to be balanced in the back against a dangerous Owusu.
HEAR FROM THE TEAM
Head coach Caleb Porter on facing CF Montreal and what the team can take from the first meeting back on May 31:
“We’re really focused on their recent form and what they’ve been doing recently. We won’t look back too much on the last time we played them, because we might do some different things and certainly they’re doing different things. We’ll look at their recent games, the last several games, and then focus on ourselves as well and what we need to do to improve. With the process now, we’re going to make sure, every week, that we don’t lose sight of who we are in terms of our game model, our principles of play, and our strengths. But also, we have time to really gameplan for the opponent and make adjustments tactically. We’ll continue to do that now for the next 11 weeks.”
Striker Leo Campana on his belief in the team despite the current run of form:
“I think part of my nature is being positive, but also I have confidence in my teammates because I am with them every day almost seven days a week. I know the potential of our team. The results haven’t been good to us, but I know we have good potential and quality players. It’s just a matter of time to get one win, and then I know things will change for us.”
Midfielder Alhassan Yusuf on Friday’s matchup vs. CF Montreal:
“First of all, for us, it doesn’t matter who we’re playing against. For us, it’s just about going out and trying to win the game, and it doesn’t matter if it’s [CF Montreal] or another club – it’s the same thing.”
