CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
4th in Eastern Conference (10-7-3, 33 pts.)
Last Result | 3-0 win at D.C. United

The New England Revolution are coming off a big road win in the nation’s capital, taking down D.C. United, 3-0, on Wednesday night. The victory came after two straight losses for the Revolution, who were looking to get back to winning ways and improve their road form. It was just the second win as visitors for New England this season, providing an important boost of confidence as they prepare for a road-heavy stretch ahead.

The Revolution welcome NYCFC to Gillette Stadium, where the Revs came out on top last season when the New York team came to town. The Revolution will look to put on a show for the home crowd as it will mark the last time out in Foxborough until September 19. As hosts, the Revs own one of the best records in the league (8-2-1) and have scored 21 of their 32 goals in Foxborough. New England are hungry for more goals after midfielder Alhassan Yusuf scored a hat trick in their midweek visit to D.C.

New York City FC
7th in Eastern Conference (7-8-5, 26 pts.)

Last Result | 2-1 loss at FC Cincinnati

NYCFC have had a busy summer since returning from the FIFA World Cup break, balancing both MLS play and Leagues Cup action. The Boys in Blue have played eight games in one month, going 1-2-0 in Leagues Cup and 2-2-1 in regular season matches. Most recently, NYCFC fell 2-1 at FC Cincinnati, conceding in stoppage time.

As visitors, NYCFC have had mixed results, claiming 11 points in nine games. While they haven’t always been wins, New York City has been quite consistent on the attack, scoring at least once in their last 12 games in all competitions. As they travel north to Foxborough, they’ll face a Revolution side that has been hard to beat at home.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution winger Jack Harrison
While midfielder Alhassan Yusuf claimed a hat trick last time out, Jack Harrison played a hand in every goal. The winger had a hat trick of assists to help Yusuf and the Revolution claim all three points at D.C. United, making a quick statement in just his third game for New England. Harrison has assisted all four of New England’s goals since his arrival.

Back in front of the home crowd for just the second time, Harrison will continue to build chemistry with his teammates on the pitch. While he’s been in New England for less than a month, it’s clear he has acclimated quickly. Already amongst the team’s top assist contributors, Harrison could be closer to scoring his first goal in a Revs jersey.

NYCFC midfielder Nicolás Fernández
Nicolás Fernández currently leads NYCFC in goal contributions by a large margin. The midfielder is not only the highest scoring player on their roster, but is also tied as the second-highest scoring player in the league with 13 goals and five assists.

Fernández has come in clutch for NYCFC all season long, but has been in peak form recently, contributing to goals in each of his last eight league appearances. While last time out he logged an assist, he scored a goal in all four league appearances prior. As New England look to claim a victory in front of the home crowd, they’ll need to shut down one of the league’s top attacking producers in Fernández.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Head coach Marko Mitrović on New York City FC:
“They are a team that wants to play, that is very possession-oriented, that always has a high level of talent higher up the field. This is maybe a different generation than if I spoke about 10 years ago. They have a very good coach. They are a very well coached team. As I said, they want to have the ball and kind of control the game with it, but on the other side, they have very good defensive behaviors. They have some additions to their team with a new [Designated Player] wide forward [Bénie Traoré], and some players coming back from injuries. For me, it's a very strong and solid team, and that team played in the conference final last season. I would say they are one of the highest challenges that you can face in this league."

Winger Jack Harrison on adapting to his new club:
“One of the things that attracted me most about coming here was Marko and his style of play. I think I can fit really well into the system, and it has been working the last couple of games. The guys have made it really easy for me to feel comfortable here and to settle in with them. There are a lot of good guys on the team. You see the way we’ve been playing, especially the last game that we combined really well, and it makes it easy to play with. So, a lot of the guys have been helping me out. It’s probably a lot of them who have helped me to be in the position.”

Harrison on playing against his former MLS club, New York City FC, for the first time:
“There has always been a place in my heart for NYCFC. It’ll be all business this weekend. I’m going to treat it like any other game, go out there, and do what I need to do. Hopefully, we’ll come away with three points.”
