CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
11th in Eastern Conference (6-7-6, 24 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 loss at Portland Timbers
New England’s seven-game road unbeaten run ended this past Saturday night in Portland, leaving the Revs winless in their last four outings. While the Revolution have consistently been in games defined by tight margins, they’re hoping to get back to winning results as they take on a formidable Miami side. New England suffered losses in both meetings with Inter Miami last season, but they have been successful in past home games against the South Florida team, coming out on top in Foxborough in both 2022 and 2023.
With a proven ability to break down Miami’s defense – scoring inside two minutes in both meetings with the Herons last season – New England will look to exploit a Miami defense that has given up 28 goals this season. With striker Leo Campana facing off with his former club for the first time since joining the Revolution, and greater depth available up top as players return to health, the front line should have plenty of motivation.
Inter Miami CF
6th in Eastern Conference (9-3-5, 32 pts.)
Last Result | 4-1 win at CF Montréal
Inter Miami returned to league play for the first time in a month this past Saturday, after they became the first MLS team to beat a European side (FC Porto) in official competition while competing in the FIFA Club World Cup. The Herons made it to the tournament’s Round of 16, but were eliminated by European champions Paris Saint-Germain in a 4-0 result.
Miami returned to regular season action for Matchday 22 in impressive fashion, dominating CF Montréal in a 4-1 victory. Following their Club World Cup run, Miami now have three or four games in hand on most of the Eastern Conference teams, yet remain sixth in the table as the highest-scoring team in the East with 40 goals. Taking only a single loss on the road so far this season, Miami will be a challenge for the Revolution, who have gone 2-4-2 at home.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution midfielder Carles Gil
Gil has continued to be the catalyst for New England’s attack. With 14 goal contributions in the last 15 games (7G, 7A), Gil has contributed to more than half of the Revolution’s 25 total goals. Gil found his seventh assist of the season last time out, playing a perfectly placed long ball to Luca Langoni’s feet for the Revolution’s lone goal in Portland.
Gil’s consistent heroics have landed him on MLS Team of the Matchday six times this season, emphasizing just how peak his performance has been in 2025. As one of the best number 10s in the league, Gil will have an interesting battle on Wednesday night as he could pair up with Miami’s 10, Lionel Messi.
Miami forward Lionel Messi
While it seemed Miami could make a slow return to MLS play after so much travel, they did the opposite – largely thanks to Lionel Messi. The captain made a rare error two minutes into Miami’s clash with Montréal leading to a goal against, but Messi quickly made up for it with two goals and one assist, earning Player of the Matchday honors for Matchday 22.
The attacking juggernaut has been named the league’s Player of the Matchday three times since the start of the season, as he has been dominant across league statistics. Messi has made 19 overall goal contributions in just 14 league appearances, scoring 12 goals and taking 73 shots, placing 32 of them on target. Messi scored five goals against the Revolution in their two meetings last season and remains Miami’s most dangerous threat.
WHAT THE REVS ARE SAYING
Head coach Caleb Porter on the chance to earn three points in front of a large home crowd:
“We approach every game with the understanding that we need to perform, with the idea that we need to analyze the opponent. Obviously, we need to do what we do well. We need to be aware of what they’re good at and how they’re going to try to hurt us. It’s like any other game. The results haven’t been there at home in the last several games, but there’s been a lot of positive play. That helps, because we can continue to fine tune versus changing everything. So, there’s a lot of little fine tuning that we need to continue to do, but obviously we haven’t been good enough at home and we need to adjust that. We feel like we have the right idea of how to do that. Some of that is just continuing to understand the balance of a game and how that might be different at times at home versus away. I think that’s part of it. Some of it is health and continuity and consistency of how we’re playing. “We’re prepared. We feel like we have an idea of how we need to go about this game, the right idea to win the game.”
Striker Leo Campana on the chance to play against his former teammates and Lionel Messi:
“For me, he’s the best in the history. It was a dream come true playing with him, being his teammate. The same, as I said, with Jordi [Alba], with Sergio [Busquets], with Luis [Suárez]. They’re a really nice group of guys. I’m really happy to play against them tomorrow, to say hi to them, to talk with them. But inside the pitch, that goes to a side. It’s going to be a really good game, tough game. Our mentality is to win, to get the three points, and reverse the wheel so we can get back on our winning path.”
Campana on the support of a large crowd at Gillette Stadium:
“I think last year was one of the first times that we [Inter Miami CF] played in a massive stadium with huge attendance. Definitely, you enter the stadium and you feel the impact because of how many fans we can get in our stadium. Hopefully, tomorrow we can get the same amount of people. Now I’m on the other side of the pitch, so I think I will enjoy it a little bit more. Hopefully, we can score a lot of goals to see all of our fans happy and enjoying the game.”
