FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. underwent a successful arthroscopic debridement of his left knee on Wednesday morning. The procedure was performed by Dr. Scott Martin at Brigham & Women’s /Mass General Health Care Center in Foxborough, Mass. Edwards is expected to return to action in approximately four-to-six weeks.
Edwards, 29, joined New England in December 2020 as a free agent after six MLS seasons with D.C. United and Orlando City SC. The six-foot-three goalkeeper owns more than 50 professional appearances across all competitions, including extensive action in the USL Championship – most recently with D.C. United’s affiliate, Loudoun United FC. A former United States youth international, Edwards was drafted by Orlando City in 2015 after a four-year collegiate career at UCLA.
The New England Revolution’s preparations for the 2021 MLS season continue in Foxborough, Mass. as the team’s preseason training camp proceeds ahead of a trip to Los Angeles, Calif. from March 24 - April 10. While in California, the Revolution will play five preseason friendlies beginning with a meeting with the LA Galaxy on March 27 at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Revs will open the 2021 MLS regular season on Saturday, April 17 at Chicago Fire FC (8:30 p.m. ET), before welcoming supporters back to Gillette Stadium for the home opener on Saturday, April 27 vs. D.C. United (8:00 p.m. ET).
