The New England Revolution earned their first road win of the season on Wednesday night, taking down Atlanta United FC 2–1 at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium. It was a full‑team comeback effort that secured another three‑point result, but goalkeeper Matt Turner and defender Mamadou Fofana helped the Revs keep the lead with their defensive heroics, which landed them both on MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi.
It wasn’t the first time Turner turned on the magic to keep the Revs ahead this season, recording 37 saves through eight games. He currently holds the fourth‑highest save total in the league, with two clean sheets and only 11 goals conceded.
Turner and the backline faced a staggering 23 shots from the Five Stripes, requiring him to make eight key saves to keep the Revs in the win column. With Atlanta fighting hard to find an equalizer in the dying minutes of the match, Turner repeatedly denied them. His composure in the final minutes reminded everyone at Mercedes‑Benz Stadium why he’s been trusted so many times to represent not only the Revolution, but also the United States on some of soccer’s biggest stages.
“There were a few attacks where they actually created three or four shots in a row. I would say that would add to the amount of shots, which to me is encouraging because we are kind of stopping the domino effect. We are blocking first shots, second shots, third shots. For me, that’s a relentless mentality,” said head coach Marko Mitrović following Wednesday night’s result. “For me, Matt is the best goalkeeper in the league. And the status that he has, we expect Matt to deliver to be fair. I don’t think that’s something that is unknown or puts different pressure on him. I strongly believe that he understands what we expect from him.”
Turner wasn’t alone in holding off Atlanta’s late push. Center back Mamadou Fofana anchored the Revolution backline with a commanding performance that earned him a place among the league’s Best XI for the second time this season. His eight clearances on the night brings his team‑leading total to 25.

With 16 goals in eight matches, New England’s attack has shined this season, featuring contributions from 11 different goal scorers. While this week’s Best XI highlights the defense, it’s a symbol of the growing balance the Revs are developing on both sides of the ball.
The Revolution now head to Nu Stadium to face Inter Miami CF, carrying a four‑game win streak. The Revs will kick off at Miami’s new home field at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night as they look to keep the winning streak alive.
