CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
14th in 2024 Eastern Conference (9-21-4, 31 pts.)

The Revolution have focused their preseason efforts on building chemistry throughout a roster featuring 14 new signings. Head coach Caleb Porter and team leaders like Carles Gil, Brandon Bye, and Alhassan Yusuf have all noted their surprise at how quickly the team has come together – both on and off the field – considering so many new additions. With a roster tailored to his own vision, Porter aims for this season to be executed more closely to his game model.

The 2024 season did not go as hoped for the Revolution and they are looking to change the narrative, starting with three points on Saturday. Recent series history favors the Revs, who came out on top in both league matches played between these teams last year.

Nashville SC
13th in 2024 Eastern Conference (9-16-9, 36 pts.)

With the advantage of opening the season at home, GEODIS Park is expected to get loud for Nashville come Saturday night. Nashville takes the pitch in a similar vein to the Revolution, after integrating many new players into the roster in the offseason.

Nashville will be kicking off their first full season under the leadership of head coach B.J. Callaghan, who took the reins last July. In a press conference ahead of Saturday’s match, Callaghan confirmed fans should expect at least Gastón Brugman and Julian Gaines to be out of the lineup due to injury.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution striker Leo Campana
Campana comes to New England from Inter Miami CF, where he helped the Herons win the 2024 Supporters’ Shield and Leagues Cup 2023 titles. The 24-year-old attacker from Guayaquil, Ecuador has been at the center of excitement surrounding new signings, and is expected to add significant goal-scoring ability to the Revolution attack.

With Miami from 2022-24, Campana scored 32 goals and added eight assists – contributing to Miami’s record-setting season in 2024. Finding success in preseason matches with a pair of goals, hopes are high for Campana to find success in New England.

Nashville midfielder Edvard Tagseth
The 23-year-old Norwegian arrives in Music City after playing in his native country with Rosenborg BK. He leaves Rosenborg with 138 appearances, six goals, and 19 assists. Prior to joining Rosenborg, Tagseth gained experience with English giants Liverpool FC, where he trained with their youth teams from 2017-2019.

Tagseth is set to create chances for Nashville in the attacking third, after achieving career highs in 2024 with a total of 10 goal contributions in 26 matches across all competitions. Saturday’s match will be Tagseth’s first appearance in MLS and first chance to play a regular season match in front of fans in Nashville.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Caleb Porter on the importance of starting the new season on a strong note and how that contributes to 2025 goals:
“Our focus is to win the next game. Obviously, we know long-term that if we win the games we should win over the course of the season, that leads to making the playoffs. Then obviously, if we make the playoffs, that leads to our ability to make a run to win MLS Cup. … We’re focused on winning the next game and that’s the short-term, getting off to a good start. Can we get our first road win? Then, we’re back at home for two, and can we get, early, our first home win? We need to win a lot more games this year than we did last year. For me, the goal is playoffs, and that’s not the end goal, but that’s an important goal for us this year, is to get in the playoffs. That leads to us hopefully being a contender for MLS Cup.”

Porter on the injury status of Peyton Miller and Will Sands:
“We’re still evaluating that every day. I won’t comment too much on injuries this year in training. We’ll make decisions, like always, that we think are best to help us win the game against Nashville. We think Will [Sands] will be close to being available. Peyton [Miller] is still a week out or two.”

Carles Gil on his outlook for this weekend’s match:
“I think it’s going to be a difficult game. Like us, they had a difficult season [in 2024]. A [season] opener in their house, they’ll be for sure excited, and they’ll try to win the game. It will be difficult. Like you said, they have experienced guys. They’ve played together many years. But we want to win against them. Like you said, last year I think we had one of our best games away in Nashville. It will be different because we’re different, they’re different. But we know what it is to win in this stadium, and we’ll try to do it again.”

Brandon Bye on building chemistry with so many new teammates:
“Every year has its different ups and downs, and different guys and different personalities, and stuff like that. There’s been big turnover since last year and I think it’s good so far. The more and more time we spend together, the more relationships we build in there, we continue to grow and continue to understand each other on and off the field.”
