CURRENT FORM

New England Revolution
4th in Eastern Conference (9-7-3, 30 pts.)
Last Result | 2-1 loss at Toronto FC

For the first time since the first two games of the season, the Revolution have dropped two straight results. After falling for just the second time at home against Houston Dynamo FC, the Revs lost on the road to Toronto FC last weekend. While the result may not have been there, New England left the pitch in Toronto feeling disappointed, but confident in the night’s work after outshooting the Canadian side 24-3 at BMO Field.

With a short turnaround, the Revs head to the nation’s capital eager to get back to winning ways. In April, the Revs hosted D.C. United in a 1-0 victory at Gillette Stadium. While the Revs sit fourth in the Eastern Conference table, they have only claimed five points in eight games on the road this season and are looking to find a spark away from home.

D.C. United
9th in Eastern Conference (5-5-9, 24 pts.)

Last Result | 1-1 draw at CF Montréal

D.C. have had an interesting run of form recently, claiming six draws in their last eight games. Since returning from the World Cup break, D.C. have gone 1-0-3 in their last four outings. While they have remained unbeaten since mid-May, they have struggled to find three-point results.

At home, D.C. have had a mixed bag, going 3-3-3 through their first nine games at Audi Field. Most recently as hosts, they played Nashville SC to a 2-2 draw after earning a 2-1 win over Toronto FC at home. With 19 of their 30 goals conceded at Audi Field, New England will look to test D.C.’s back line and secure three points.

KEY PLAYERS

Revolution forward Wilson Harris
Wilson Harris joined New England at the start of last month and has spent the past few weeks working his way into the squad while adapting to head coach Marko Mitrović’s style of play. The 26-year-old forward has appeared in all five games since signing with the Revolution and recently opened his MLS account with his first New England goal.

In just 77 minutes of play for the Revs, Harris has found the scoresheet, heading home a cross from winger Jack Harrison in last week’s match in Toronto. Prior to rejoining MLS, after beginning his professional career with Sporting Kansas City in 2019, Harris spent time with USL Championship side Louisville City FC and in the Israeli Premier League with Maccabi Petah Tikva and Maccabi Netanya. A proven goalscorer throughout his career, Harris could be just getting started with the Revolution.

D.C. United striker Tai Baribo
After tallying 16 goals and three assists last year with Supporters’ Shield winners Philadelphia Union, Baribo has continued his prolific form with D.C. United, already netting 12 goals this season – including one in each of his last five appearances.

Baribo was unavailable due to injury when D.C. visited Foxborough earlier this season, but New England are familiar with the threat he poses. Last season with Philadelphia, the striker scored in the Union’s 2-0 win over the Revs in early March. As the Revolution look to restore their defensive fortitude, they’ll face a difficult test against the red-hot Baribo.

HEAR FROM THE TEAM

Head coach Marko Mitrović on the challenges of playing against D.C. United:
“It’s a team that has their identity in the way they play. They’re a team that doesn’t hesitate to finish their actions, whether it’s crosses or stray balls in behind. They play with two forwards that provide a lot of moments in behind or when the ball is in the crossing areas into the box. It’s a team that is very strong on set pieces as well, so they have their identity and they just keep going from game to game. We played them in the beginning of the season and had one friendly game against them this summer, so I think both teams know each other very well.”

Defender Mamadou Fofana on the team's mentality in moving past disappointing outcomes and focusing on the next match:
"In our job, we don't have time to think a lot. We do the right thing, but sometimes doing the right things don't pay off. We just have to continue. We are doing good things, so I think it will pay off. We just have to continue to work, we can never give up and keep going."

Fofana on what stands out about Marko Mitrović as a head coach:
"Since the first day, he gave us the idea of how we want to play. He is a coach who demands a lot. Like I said, we are together and we follow what he says. It will pay off. We just have to continue and work hard, and we know it will pay off.”
