CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
3rd in Eastern Conference (9-6-3, 30 pts.)
Last Result | 2-0 loss vs. Houston Dynamo FC
The Revs had been unbeaten since returning from the FIFA World Cup break, going 1-0-2 before last week’s loss to Houston Dynamo FC. The 2-0 result was only the second time the Revolution have lost at home this season, where they have earned 25 of their 30 points. Now on the road for the next two games – and six of their next seven – the Revs will look to improve their away form and secure more points outside of Gillette Stadium.
Just three weeks ago, the Revs tied Toronto FC 0-0 in front of the home crowd. Although the Revs failed to find the net against Toronto last month, they controlled the game with 63.6% possession. This will be New England’s first visit to BMO Field this year, where last season they walked away with all three points in a 2-0 victory.
Toronto FC
12th in Eastern Conference (3-7-8, 17 pts.)
Last Result | 1-1 draw at New York City FC
Toronto have yet to play a game in August, but went all of July without a win. Since returning from the World Cup break, Toronto have gone 0-1-3, playing all of their games on the road. Saturday will mark the first time they are back at BMO Field since May 9.
Currently sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference standings, Toronto have only found three wins through 18 games this season. Since returning from the break, Toronto has scored just two goals in four games. Back in front of their home crowd, they could have extra motivation to claim a win.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana
With just 23 goals conceded through 18 games, the Revolution are one of the strongest defensive sides in the league this season. That is largely in part to center back Mamadou Fofana, who has been a mainstay of the Revolution backline since the beginning of last season. Currently, Fofana leads the league with 54 clearances.
Last time out against Toronto, Fofana led the backline as New England secured their fourth clean sheet of the season. As the Revs travel to BMO Field and look to claim all three points on the road, Fofana will continue to be an integral part of the Revolution’s success.
Toronto defender Richie Laryea
Richie Laryea has had a busy summer, from starting every match for Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to competing in the MLS All-Star Game, he has competed with the best players in the world and the league. On top of that, the defender has been an important piece in Toronto’s recent defensive form, helping secure two clean sheets in their last four games.
As Laryea returns to BMO Field for the first time since representing Canada, he is sure to have a boost of momentum from the home crowd. While New England are looking to increase their goal tally – especially on the road – getting past the Canadian right back will be a challenge.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Assistant coach Michael Morris on the takeaways from the first encounter with Toronto FC on July 22:
"It was a game where we felt we had a lot of control and potentially left some points on the board. We just weren't able to create as many high-quality finishing chances as we expected, but there was a good level of play in our possession and some good things in shape that we wanted to see. So, now it's just making sure that we implement what was successful and then maybe tweak a few things that we might need to do to mitigate against them. We continue to talk about being clinical and ruthless when we're finishing attacks, so it's just reinforcing that type of behavior."
Head coach Marko Mitrović on what forward/winger Jack Harrison has added to the club’s environment:
“Jack has great working habits, and really is someone who has a great mindset coming here every day. I actually want to say that’s something new that we are learning about Jack from the past, and that’s why we brought Jack. We always say that players have certain qualities to help the team, but on the other side we have a certain environment that we want to create. It’s not just Jack, every player on this team is coming here with a great mindset to maximize every day and give everything. Jack is a great addition to that.”
Defender Ethan Kohler on the keys to another strong defensive performance against Toronto FC this weekend:
“I think being successful defensively is not just something that comes from the backline, it's a team effort. We have to continue to stay compact throughout our lines, and we have to press well. When we're sitting in our mid-block, we have to do that well. Obviously, defending is a lot easier when you're better on the ball. I think just as a whole, when we have the ball, taking care of it and taking our chances when they come is going to be really big just for taking a little bit of the load off us defensively. And, of course, just being disciplined.”
